Social Media is Not Just For Students

A Principal's Reflections

When principals hear the words Twitter and Facebook they cringe. Immediately, visions of excessive socialization, time wasted, and meaningless conversations in the form of updates come to mind. Why spend money on expensive information delivery systems when you can use Twitter for free?

Social Media in Education

A Principal's Reflections

My answers to Bill''s questions provide a snapshot of my social media in education journey. What made you interested in using social media to reach out to your school community? For me, Twitter opened the door to the world of social media.

My Twitter Journey So Far: Using Twitter as a Personal Educational Resource

EdTechSandyK

Like many of you I started hearing buzz about Twitter this year. But I didn''t see any use for Twitter for me, an ed tech specialist with nothing to sell or promote. I signed on in April of 2009, but didn''t do much with it. The little I did explore led me to view Twitter pretty much like this. A friend of mine started getting into social media and using Twitter in the tourism and to a small extent the personal realm, and I heard her mention it once or twice.

For those who are not Twitter chat savvy, a Twitter chat originally was a discussion that uses a specific hashtag to conduct a real-time chat on a specific subject. We are fortunate that any chats are now available to us as connected educators using social media for continuing professional development.
