MOOCs are great ideas, but assessment and feedback loops and certification are among the many issues holding them back. Comparing an unsupported MOOC from 2008 to an in-person college experience isn’t apples to apples. Open Curriculum. And anymore, they end being the punchline of edtech jokes, somehow.

One mentioned that their institution used to host WordPress locally, but is now exploring externally hosted social media (Twitter, Facebook, Google+, etc). In 2007 Jon Udell made this argument in an Educause podcast, addressing non-educational data ( link ). For example: Googling people to learn about them. A: Jim hoped so.

This is a throwback post, first published in March 2014 (and referring to yet another post all the way back in 2007). First, I know more computer science and computer programming now than I did in 2007. Back in 2007, I was just using Geometers Sketchpad and Derive (anybody remember Derive?), and then somewhat sparingly.
