New technology trends are an outgrowth of the Intelligent Digital Mesh—connecting people and digital activities in a way that supports continuous innovation. Artificial intelligence is driving everything from autonomous things (#1 on the list) and immersive experience (#6) to privacy and ethics (#9). Just because we can use artificial intelligence on something doesn’t necessarily mean that we should. Rounding out the top 10 is quantum computing, which will give us the ability to solve problems we can’t today. These analytics identify hidden patterns while removing personal bias and will be embedded eventually into enterprise applications. Smart spaces (#8) are physical or digital environments where humans and tech-enabled systems interact in increasingly open, connected, coordinated, and intelligent ecosystems. Smart cities are a great example of this. Areas that combine business, residential, and industrial communities are being designed using intelligent urban ecosystem frameworks, with all sectors linking to social and community collaboration.
