CoderZ and the Amazon Future Engineer program are working together to offer free access to the CoderZ Virtual Robotics Learning Environment during the COVID-19 pandemic. Amazon Future Engineer is sponsoring this content.

CoderZ is an online educational environment where independent students or full classes program their own virtual robots while working on collaborative virtual missions linked to real world concepts and computer science learning standards. The cloud-based platform features a graphical simulation of LEGO Mindstorms EV3 robot and a CoderZ virtual robot named Ruby. Users activate the virtual robot, in game-like “missions” and watch the results in a real-time simulation.  Novices in grades as early as second grade can use the program’s Blockly visual code editor while it allows more experienced users and those in high school to use text-based coding.

Users also have access to CoderZ’s Virtual Robotics curriculums. The program’s newly-released standards-aligned Cyber Robotics 102 curriculum was just chosen as a 2020 SIIA CODiE Award finalist in the Best Game-Based Curriculum Solution category. Designed to teach computer science and robotics to students in grades 5-8, the curriculum utilizes mechanics, physics, navigation and sensors to introduce students to programming concepts such as commands, variables, conditional logic, loops and more.
