creatED by Crayola Pilots Program in Eight Districts, Transforms Teaching and Learning through Confident, Creative Educators

Across the U.S., district leaders are embracing arts-infused teaching approaches to prepare K-8 students for an innovation-fueled workforce. creatED by Crayola®, the brand that inspires creativity in education, is piloting its professional learning program in eight districts across the U.S. during the 2017-18 school year. creatED provides educators with teaching strategies and resources that increase student engagement and improve learning outcomes.

The districts piloting creatED are in various stages of their arts-integration journey. Available in one, two or three-year configurations, creatED’s professional learning consultants tailor the program to each cohorts’ specific needs. The pilot districts begin creative leadership training with select schools or district teams that act as catalysts for change on a district-wide level.

“Educators are lifelong learners and professional development programs should build confidence, develop skills and inspire teachers,” said Cheri Sterman, director of education at Crayola. “creatED gives teachers creative ways to engage students so that they express learning in meaningful ways.”

2017-18 creatED pilot program districts include:

· Alabama Education Association, Ala.

· Bartlett City Schools, Tenn.

· Clark County School District, Nev.

· Clayton County Public Schools, Ga.

· Dorchester School District Two, S.C.

· Indian River County School District, Fla.

· Prince George’s County Public Schools, Md.

· South Orange-Maplewood School District, N.J.

“Creativity can transform teaching and learning. Our program and resources provide practical ways for students to connect abstract ideas to the real world,” said Sterman. “When teachers use art in their core instruction, students learn how to collaborate and solve challenges, equipping them with essential skills for work and life.”
