The Power of Local and National Community Connections – Digital Promise

The Power of Local and National Community Connections

September 25, 2018 | By

Education Innovation Clusters (EdClusters) are local communities of practice that bring together educators, entrepreneurs, funders, researchers, and other community stakeholders (families, local government, nonprofits) to support innovative teaching and learning in their region. Digital Promise convenes this national network of community leaders committed to driving education innovation in their context to learn from one another and work together to drive the greatest possible impact in their contexts. Including school districts, government, universities, the private sector and many more stakeholders, this network of networks is uniquely positioned to design, launch, iterate on, and disseminate breakthrough learning practices and tools.

Within their local context, EdClusters drive powerful change within their communities. The Rhode Island EdCluster (EduvateRI) convened diverse stakeholders to write a white paper that helped set the state’s vision on personalized learning. The Philadelphia EdCluster is working to build a culture of connectedness and partnerships that bring otherwise disconnected community leaders together to build partnerships that create real world opportunities for students. In New Jersey, Northern Ignite is building powerful professional learning opportunities for administrators and teachers to visit with one another and share best practices.

Though it’s only been four years since Digital Promise began to convene these networks, the group has significantly grown and made great strides in building national connections while bolstering their own local communities. Rest assured, this work has only just begun.
