edWeb Hosts Project Tomorrow Virtual Congressional Briefing on Speak Up 2020 Research

Speak Up 2020This week, edWeb.net will be hosting a virtual presentation of the Speak Up 2020 Congressional Briefing: Release of the National Research Findings on Wednesday, October 21st at 12 pm Eastern Time.

For the past 17 years, Project Tomorrow has hosted an annual Congressional Briefing in Washington, D.C. to share the national findings from the latest Speak Up research. The event informs the work of policymakers as well as education, business and community leaders who value the Speak Up findings as input into new programs, policies, and funding for education.

This year’s Briefing aims to democratize access to research data that can inform local and national discussions about the future of education and the role of innovation in transforming learning experiences throughout the United States. Leveraging feedback data collected from over 136,000 K-12 students, educators, and parents nationwide, program participants will gain an in-depth perspective on the state of digital learning in our schools, both before and during school closures. A special focus at this year’s event will be a discussion of how lessons learned from the sudden shift to digital learning in spring 2020 can help accelerate changes in K-12 education. The event will also feature a panel discussion of K-12 students from around the country who will share their authentic views on the Speak Up findings and their expectations for new learning environments.

This is the first time the Speak Up Congressional Briefing will be a virtual event, enabling participation by a wider audience of K-12 education stakeholders. Educators are invited to register for the live presentation or to receive the recording on the event page.

Dr. Julie A. Evans, CEO of Project Tomorrow, commented, “Our goal with the Speak Up Research Project has always been to help school and district leaders make better decisions by understanding the authentic views of K-12 stakeholders. At no time ever before has this mission been more important. We are so grateful to edWeb for partnering with us to host this year’s Speak Up Congressional Briefing. This first-time virtual Briefing provides an opportunity for more education and policy leaders from all across the country to gain access to this timely research that they can use immediately to inform new plans and programs.”

Lisa Schmucki, the founder and CEO of edWeb.net, commented, “We’re very happy to host a virtual presentation of the Speak Up 2020 report and hope we can expand the audience for this important information, especially at this time when data on the impact of the coronavirus on education is critical.”
