Chrome Can: Chrome for the Holidays!

This post, while not really in line with my other posts, where you can learn about how Chromebooks are great tools for creation, collaboration, communication and critical thinking, will introduce some great things a Chromebook can do to help you all celebrate the holiday season.   Welcome to Chrome for the Holidays!

The first thing I would like to address are things that make your Chromebook look like it is in the holiday spirit.  If you head on over to your uber convenient Chrome Web Store, you will find a few holiday themes to dress up your Chrome experience for the holidays.

If you type in the word Christmas there is a plethora of themes, wallpapers, and extensions.  Want kittens and puppies? It’s there!  Want Santa and snow?  It is also there!  Want a Christmas countdown? That’s right you can have that too!  This is just one search term.  Try others like Santa, Christmas Recipes, Snowman and fireplace to name a few.

In fact, this last one gives you the ability to turn your Chromebook into a mini fireplace.  Very cool, literally it won’t create heat, but it will give whatever room it is placed in the appearance of a fireplace with great cracking sounds.  Light some real candles along with it and blow them out a few times to give you that smokey smell.  Want a techy looking fire then just turn on the Pixel Fire and you will have a fire that looks like it should be coming from your Chromebook.  Youtube also offers a 10 hour long video that will do the same thing.  In fact, if you have a Google Home and a Chromecast you can just ask your assistant to play fireplace on youtube and your TV will become an instant fireplace! Want music and a fireplace? Youtube has this too!

Pixel Fire

One of my favorite things to do during this time of the year is Google’s Santa Tracker.  This website allows you to do many things, play games, code to create snowflakes, countdown to Christmas and track Santa on his route, all in one place!  Kids of all ages love this site!

These are just a few things you can do on your Chromebook to make your holidays a little more fun and enjoyable.

Happy holidays!
