Video Transcript:

My name is Erik Portillo. I am the Director of Engineering here at SecurEdge Networks.

Today I wanted to talk to you guys a little about what are our top three call drivers. What are the things that we see more frequently within my support team?

It basically falls into three different buckets: slow speeds, can’t connect to a certain SSID or low signal.

A couple of the common things that we see causing these issues have to do with things like congestion.

Think about things like cordless telephones or microwaves now there is even things like smart washer and dryer or smart refrigerator that’s also connected. Think of the connected homes so think of things like Alexa, Sonos, or Google Home.

All these things are using predominately the 2.4 GHz range, so we design through years of experience, we’ve found there is less congestion or less traffic or less usage of the 5GHz range.

There are several things you can do on your own to kind of prevent or look and see if these are the issues affecting you. There are several apps out there that you can download on both IOS and Android. They’re basically Wi-Fi analyzer tools. They are all going to tell you very similar data.

  • What channels are being used?
  • How many SSID’s are being broadcasted in your area?
  • What ranges from bands are being used?
  • Is it 2.4GHz or is it 5GHz bands?

So, the information that you gather from those apps can give you some direction of where you’re going to make tweaks or adjustments to your network.

Things like you cannot connect to an SSID, sometimes your devices whether it’s an iPhone or a tablet or laptop, you go to connect to Wi-Fi and over time it gets corrupt.

Your connection or profile on that Wi-Fi gets corrupt so it’s always good as a primary step to go into the network settings of that device and simply forget the network and re-establish a connection basically refreshing its connection to that Wi-Fi.

So, through a process of elimination we kind of attack those different issues you are having and uncover or peel back layers of onion to understand really what’s causing your issue in your location and that can be different from site to site.
