Writing Exercises For Children

Writing Exercises Children’s Section offers various prompt tools that can be used for creative writing exercises.

By using the website, you can get a random story title ‘the Unhappy Puppy’ or ‘The Girl Who Skated With A Bubble’. You can get a story plot with two characters, place and event such as: ‘A clever boy, A talkative girl, the story begins in a shopping centre, someone is going on a long train journey’. You may only need a character to start your story: A lucky boy who rides a bike everywhere. He lives up a hill and is an only child. Or your students may enjoy writing about an animal character: A cowardly lizard, who is very ticklish. You may need the first line of a story: The phone started ringing as he walked past the telephone box, so… Your students can also write about a story that includes a journey: One cold winter’s day, a family goes on a journey by taxi. They are going to visit a new baby. Or they can become journalists and write about: Astronaut Lands On Mars or about an odd object such as a tiny hat is floating in space. You can also write by looking at a random picture.

The tools are various and sure to help our students to push their limits of their creativity. You can use them for your writing lessons or the prompts can be used for speaking exercises as well. The tools can serve as a tuning in or a wrap up activity as well as they can be used for time fillers!
