I attended my first EdCamp, called JEDCampNYNJ and on a Sunday last spring. At EdCamps, this is a given. So what makes a conference a JEDCamp rather than an EDCamp? Edcamp jds JEDcamp professional development' It was a life changing experience for me on several levels. I vastly preferred the latter. No harm either way.

This was all good until I realized that I could use my new skill learned at the San Diego EdCamp (thanks, Kyra Bowers !) to make a digital version and not fuss with a pile of paper and a clipboard as I walked around the room, or took notes during a Reading or Math group. Having my Google Form pulled up on a tablet is much cooler!

Kristen Swanson (an Edcamp Founder) designed a session that gave the Edcamp experience. We circled up chairs, suggested topics and then moved around the room so we could see what an Edcamp was like.

The Edcamp model is unique in that attendees set the agenda the morning of the conference and the sessions are not led by one person, but are rather a collaboration of both the facilitator and attendees. On one day in August before the students came, and again in January of this year we set up Edcamp style PD days. While our PD days weren't like the traditional Edcamp style (we actually came up with the choices instead of the teachers making the choices), the teachers found the days to be useful.
