A lot has happened in the world of digital learning since ExcelinEd’s Digital Learning Now initiative and Getting Smart released the first Smart Series paper in August 2012. So this summer we have refreshed the series and made some changes.

Online Learning Myths Cover FINALThis paper is one of nine in the DLN Smart Series – a collection of interactive papers that provides specific guidance regarding the adoption of higher standards and quality assessments focusing on the shift to personal digital learning.

This paper challenges current myths and realities that will advance the field of online learning. In doing so, the authors are candid about the strengths of online learning and offer recommendations on aspects that need additional attention to further strengthen it.

The paper’s sections on myths and realities confront misconceptions about what online learning means for students, teachers and the system as a whole. Key topics include:
