Career & Technical Education Month

February is Career & Technical Education (CTE) month! Celebrate the value of CTE, achievements and accomplishments of programs across the country. In addition to manufacturing and other blue collar careers, CTE covers many different fields, including health care, information technology (IT), advanced manufacturing, hospitality and management. Looking to have your students explore careers, check out Career One Stop.

Future Business Leaders of America students are hosting a career day in the media center in which representatives from local businesses, the U.S. armed services, and two- and four-year colleges will be distributing application, scholarship, and recruitment information while answering questions about summer internships and jobs.

Safer Internet Day is February 11 while Digital Learning Day is February 27th.

Black History Month

The American Archive of Public Broadcasting, in conjunction with the Library of Congress, offers more than 50,00 hours of digitized public broadcasting programs. Scroll through special collections to find historic interviews and newscasts.

An even larger collection of videos, images and recordings is located in the archives of the Library of Congress.

The History Channel also provides a good collection of photos, videos and articles.

Valentine’s Day

Some of the best STEM activities are on Pinterest. Even the Smithsonian has a Valentine’s Day board full of science-themed activities.

The Franklin Institute offers nerdy science valentines that can be adapted by any STEM class and then displayed outside the room.

Good Reads has its best young adult sci-fi romances.

Leap Year

CBS News tells us about leap years in a 5-minute segment that includes a 100-year-old woman having her 25th birthday, man on the street leap-year interviews, and a piece from Michio Kaku, theoretical physicist and excellent explainer of all things science.

Clean Out Your Computer Day

Clean Out Your Computer Day is February 10 this year. Time and Date has a short article and all kinds of clocks and calendars in the dropdown menus.

Finally, Norton offers some advice for cleaning out your hardware and software.
