Today's Newsletter: Student Data Privacy in Peril

Worries over personal data are not restrained to Russians and Facebook. This weekend’s reading of the Tech&Learning news feeds indicates that the issue is an edtech sore point as well. Edweek surveys privacy experts on what the Cambridge Analytica fiasco means for schools. And Stephan Noonoo digs deep in this EdSurge piece on attempts by states to keep vendors accountable: “Since 2013, more than 120 new student-privacy laws have passed in 40 states, according to FERPA Sherpa, a resource site launched by the nonprofit Future of Privacy Forum and the Data Quality Campaign.” It would be nice to feel there was some sort of easy solution to these quandaries.
