Got Winter Cabin Fever? Sweat It Out At These Higher-Ed Technology Conferences in 2019

The holidays are a time for celebration. But if shorter hours of sunlight and the stress of gift-giving has you ready to welcome in the new year, we’ve got one more thing to look forward to: a year’s worth of events with educators and edtech entrepreneurs sharing the latest trends and ideas around the future of learning.

We’ve rounded up some of the most widely-attended edtech conferences in the U.S., from major business events like the ASU GSV Summit, along with smaller, specialty gatherings like the Digital Pedagogy Lab. And they are all in the free, downloadable calendar below.

This time around, the 2019 higher education events calendar is including only U.S.-based events. And we’re making a new, separate international calendar for K-12 and higher-ed technology events. Be on the lookout for that in the upcoming weeks. (Know an international edtech event we should include? Tell us here.)

EdSurge reporters, researchers and other staff members often frequent these events, where we write about the latest news and emerging trends in education technology. EdSurge also offers its own annual edtech conference, Fusion, and our one-day entrepreneur workshop, Immersion.

Can’t make any of these events? EdSurge HigherEd regularly hosts meetups and Twitter chats on online learning and higher education technology. We also host virtual townhalls, called EdSurge Live, where we invite experts to speak about the latest trends and issues.

To stay up to date on those opportunities and more, subscribe to our higher-ed newsletter, Next, and follow us on Twitter and Facebook. Not on social? We also have a podcast, which you can find it on Apple Podcasts, Soundcloud, Stitcher or wherever you listen.

The calendar below names more than 50 edtech conferences happening in the U.S. this year. We’ve included dates, location, a brief description as well as category to help you decide what’s right for you. For the few events where dates and location are still pending, you’ll see “TBD.” You can also click on the events for a link to their website to find out more.

In case you’re wondering…

Gold, red, green, blue: What do these colors mean?

There are a lot of conferences on this list (now 54 to be exact). To help narrow things down, we've designated the primary audience for each event:

  • Blue events focus on teaching and learning and are targeted at instructors, faculty and instructional designers (though some of these events involve exhibitor halls).
  • Red events emphasize the business of edtech more than pedagogy.
  • Gold events are tightly focused around a topic or specific audience, such as libraries or community colleges.
  • Green events are oriented around a specific product or company.

Your link took me to a conference that already happened or doesn’t exist yet. What gives?

We confirmed with conference organizers all dates for future events that aren’t yet listed on their site. We linked to the most relevant websites we could find; pages that appear outdated should be updated by the organizers in the coming months.

Where did the international (non-U.S.) events go?

Fear not: We will be publishing a separate calendar of these events in mid-January. Know of a conference or event that should be added? Let us know here!

Aw, you left out my favorite event!

Sorry about that! Feel free to add a comment on this piece with details about the event you like the best, or shoot us an email at feedback@edsurge.com.

Do you have a similar K-12 calendar?

We do! Here it is.
