EdTech Pioneer Flocabulary Taps Seasoned Leader

Flocabulary, a learning platform that brings the K-12 curriculum to life through its standards-aligned hip-hop videos, today announced the appointment of Din Heiman as president. Heiman brings 15 years of education management experience to Flocabulary, which is used in more than 25,000 schools nationwide.

"Din's experience -- and mission alignment -- will enable our team to scale in ways that respond to the growing popularity of Flocabulary among educators and students in districts around the country," said Alex Rappaport, co-founder and CEO of Flocabulary. "This is about pairing a platform rooted in the experiences and passion of artists and educators, with expertise navigating the complexity of K-12 education, to scale our reach – and impact."

Founded in 2004, Flocabulary began as a revolutionary SAT prep platform that taught vocabulary through rap lyrics. Today, the platform includes more than 1,000 captivating, standards-aligned lessons on topics ranging from English and Social Studies to Science and Math. Flocabulary's pioneering approach draws upon the artistry of hip-hop to make rigorous academic content catchy, relevant and fun. Schools and districts nationwide, including Cleveland and Atlanta now utilize Flocabulary's research-based activities to help students master standards, build vocabulary and develop the 21st-century skills necessary to thrive in the classroom and beyond.

"Flocabulary's growing following among educators has been astounding to watch. The company is tapping into districts' need for culturally relevant offerings in an unrivaled fashion, enabling teachers to reach students in ways that will have a profound impact both on learning outcomes and on school climate," said Heiman. "I'm thrilled to join the talented, creative and diverse team giving voice to a generation of students."

Over the course of his career in education management, Heiman has developed a reputation as a driver of accelerated business growth, strategy and innovation. Before joining Flocabulary, he served as longtime COO and General Manager at BrainPOP, Interim President at Achieve3000, and as Executive Director of Operations at Kaplan Test Prep. Education is Heiman's second career, following his tenure as career diplomat in Germany, Argentina, Panama and Israel.
