The Learning Revolution
Weekly Update

August 19th, 2014

Perhaps the greatest joy is learning how to motivate yourself.
- Floyd Maxwell

The Learning Revolution Project highlights our own "conference 2.0" virtual and physical events and those of our over 200 partners in the learning professions. We also highlight good conversations about learning taking place between educators, learners, leaders, and others from the school, library, museum, work, adult, online, non-traditional and home learning worlds. The Internet is shifting the boundaries of these worlds, and we believe that as they increasingly overlap and integrate these conversations will be critical to framing and preparing for the learning revolution starting to take place.

  • Did you miss the annoucement of our Online Summit Featuring Google for Education? September 6th + 7th!. We’re taking Google education summits online! • Gaming in Ed: September 15th - 19th. Join the inaugural Gaming in Ed conference. This is a free event bringing together educators, researchers, game developers and innovators from around the world, being held Monday September 15th - Friday September 19th. Whether you're passionate about game-based learning or just getting your toes wet, Gaming in Ed celebrates the value that games offer in educational settings: a safe environment for taking on new roles, opportunities for creative problem solving and experimenting, and learning from failure. When done well, games can foster collaboration, strengthen critical and systems thinking, pose adaptive challenges, and spark inquiry. With guidance from educators, students aren't just players, but critical evaluators of games and game designers themselves. This conference will offer a variety of perspectives, from educators and game developers to researchers and administrators. Our goal is to have you walk away with practical information and inspiration for furthering game-based learning in class and beyond. The call for proposals is open until September 1st, so please share this opportunity with your colleagues. See you there!
  • We're about to announce three additional conferences for 2015: Maker Education, Reinventing Higher Ed, and Digital Citizenship. We're so excited about each--let me know at steve@hargadon.com if you want to help or be a part of the planning for these! Look for more information in the coming weeks.
