Connected Educator Month - Week One's Amazing Schedule!

Connected Educator Month kicks off this week, and serving as a consultant to the event with significant responsibility especially for this week's events, I humbly think you're going to be BLOWN AWAY by the opportunities to learn and participate. All activities are free!

Connected Educator Month is a U.S. Department of Education’s Connected Educators initiative, coming out of Director of the Office of Educational Technology Karen Cator's working group on "online communities of practice." As a member of this working group, this is an event I've been super enthusiastic about (pushing for!), and shows an amazing level of support by the DOE for the role of online communities and social learning networks--networks like Classroom 2.0 that are "helping hundreds of thousands of educators learn, reducing isolation and providing 'just in time' access to knowledge and opportunities for collaboration." The goal throughout this August is to expose the broader audience of educators and administrators to the benefits of peer professional development.

The schedule for this week is below. You're going to be amazed at the INCREDIBLE caliber of the guests this week, and this is just the start. Don't miss the newly announced Learning 2.0 Conference August 20 - 24, with keynotes currently scheduled with Heidi Hayes Jacobs, Sugata Mitra, Marc Prensky, and Audrey Watters [NEW: Julie Evans, Michelle Pacansky-Brock, and Yong Zhao]; special Learning 2.0 / Future of Education interviews throughout the month with David Deubelbeiss, Lee Rainie, Rudy Crew, Roger Schank, Paulo Blikstein, Rob Fried, Gordon Dryden, Tony Wagner, and Michael Strong; and a powerhouse panel session on "Reforming Ed Reform" with Alfie Kohn, Gary Stager, Stephen Downes, Howard Gardner.

The full official and regularly-updated calendar can be found at http://connectededucators.org/cem, but the selected listing below may make it a little easier to see the scope of activities at a glance. For those events in Blackboard Collaborate, to make sure that your computer is configured correctly, please visit the support and configuration page.
