MIND Blog Rewind: January 2020

Each month on the MIND blog, we share stories of how our organization, our partners, and educators across the country are advancing the mission to mathematically equip all students to solve the world’s most challenging problems. We also share resources for educators and students, and cover some of the exciting events we take part in across the country.

Welcome to the MIND Blog Rewind! The roaring twenties is upon us and January has already picked up speed. Already we've announced the new ST Math, moved corporate headquarters, and traveled with JiJi to Miami, Florida to attend FETC 2020.

Here is a recap of important news, content, and resources that came out of MIND and our community in January 2020.

Have you heard the news?
In January, MIND Research Institute announced the launch of an all-new version of our flagship solution, ST Math®! ST Math is all new for the 2020-2021 school year, complete with some amazing enhancements and new features we're so excited to share!

The latest version of the visual game-based math program features upgraded visuals, improved reporting, and streamlined design for easier implementation and usage.

Check out our announcement and some of the features that I'm most excited about!

To pair with our big news, we've also released a new episode of Inside Our MIND podcast, talking about the new ST Math. Brian LeTendre, Director of Content and Communications, had a fantastic discussion with Edie Perkins, Senior Director of Product Management, about what's not changing, our goals with the new version of ST Math, and the new experience for students, teacher, and administrators. Listen now!

To kick off the new year we talked goal setting! Even if you don't set New Year's resolutions, it's still a great time to re-evaluate your goals for the new year, check in on where you're at on current goals, and if you're so inclined, set new goals! You're not in this alone. We're rooting for you and we've included resources to help you along the way.

In keeping with annual traditions, Emily Howatt, Database Analytics Manager, crunched the numbers and shared the answer to a fun question: How many students chose math for Christmas?

The results were exciting and we learned that on Christmas day, 9,459 students:

  • Logged almost 13,400 ST Math sessions
  • Played over 3,000 hours of ST Math
  • Mastered almost 332,000 puzzles
  • Finished 1,826 objectives

Sandra Consilio, Director of Learning at MIND, shared a recap of MINDShare 2019. MINDShare is the annual event hosted by MIND Research Institute where colleagues from all across the country gather for a week of work and play. There was a lot to look forward to and it did not disappoint. Check out our recap! I'm sure you're dying to know who won the ugly holiday sweater contest.

There was also a JiJi sighting!

The future of edtech was bright at FETC! Liz Neiman, VP of Engagement, traveled with JiJi to Miami, Florida to attend FETC 2020 (Future of Education Technology Conference). It was a lot of fun to catch up with educators from across the country and share information about the new version of ST Math. Plus, attendees were some of the first to see JiJi's makeover in person.

Calli Wright, board game expert and Education Engagement Manager created a big list of STEM board games for kids so that you can play in your classroom or at home. Find the perfect board game(s) to engage kids in science, technology, engineering, math, and more!

For the fourth year in a row, MIND Research Institute was given a special end-of-year gift of collaborating with our amazing partner, Rockwell Automation, at their 2019 Automation Fair®! Automation Fair is the premier industrial automation event offering unmeasurable knowledge and skill-building opportunities. Held on November 20 and 21 in Chicago, it brought together a record-breaking attendance of over 19,000 makers, builders, and innovators from across the globe.

Maria Cervantes, Community Partnerships Director at MIND, shared a recap of the 2019 Automation Fair and highlighted the bold conversations, incredible students, and inspiring STEM experiences happening there.
