Bookshare Offers Accessible ebooks for Students with Print Disabilities

This month I had the chance to speak with the team at Bookshare — the world’s largest online library of accessible ebooks for people with print disabilities. A print disability is can include blindness, low vision, or a physical disability. This could include cerebral palsy or a learning disability, like dyslexia. Bookshare also has an extensive collection of educational and popular titles, including K-12 textbooks, specialized book formats, and reading tools too.

Accessible ebooks for Students

Bookshare Offers Accessible ebooks for Students with Print Disabilities 1Bookshare offers individuals who cannot read standard print materials the same ease of access that people without disabilities enjoy. There are a variety of apps and programs for computers, tablets, smartphones, and other electronic devices. So Bookshare subscribers can read with the aid of highlighted text. It synchronizes with a synthetic speech generator that “reads” the text out loud. Teachers can certainly sign their school up for an organization membership and parents of children with print disabilities can sign their child up for an individual membership. Both are also completely free!
